Jun Fan Gung Fu is the base martial art of Jeet Kune Do.

It was developed and taught by Bruce Lee and was his personal expression of Jeet Kune Do. Jun Fan Gung Fu has a definite set of principles, standardized training methods, and concrete techniques.

It's major influences are Wing Chun, Western Boxing, Wrestling, Northern and Southern Chinese Gung Fu, Fencing, Judo, and Jui-Jitsu. Jun Fan Gung Fu develops important attributes such as speed, power, timing, mobility, contact reflex, sensitivity, coordination, and agility.

One cannot be a legitimate practitioner of Jeet Kune Do under the Bruce Lee family tree without extensive training and knowledge in Jun Fan Gung Fu. Jeet Kune Do is the martial philosophy of Bruce Lee and represents the most effective martial arts path for each individual, informed by proper training and research.

Jeet Kune Do can be taught, but it cannot be standardized. Each person must develop their own Jeet Kune Do by

(1) learning the Jun Fan Gung Fu base,

(2) absorbing what is useful from that base and from other varied systems,

(3) discarding what is useless, and

(4) adding what is specifically their own. The Legacy Jeet Kune Do curriculum emphasizes the Jun Fan Gung Fu base for beginner students.

At the intermediate and more advanced levels, concepts and techniques from other arts are added in order to assist each student to develop and refine his/her personal Jeet Kune Do. These arts include Shoot Wrestling (Japan), Filipino Martial Arts (Filipines), Silat (Indonesia), and Muay Thai (Thailand).
